Summary vs. Analysis

The difference between summary and analysis is very important, especially when it comes to writing a rhetorical analysis. As a writer, you need to understand which is which, and the ratio needed to effectively reach your audience.

Summary:
A summary is a statement of the facts. You repeat the facts and information provided by the article, but don't give your opinion on them. This is simply to make sure that your audience knows what is going on. In some cases your audience will not be familiar with the topic you are discussing. Providing a summary will make sure that your audience is on the same page as you.

Analysis:
An analysis goes deeper than a summary does. Instead of simply repeating facts, you give your thoughts and opinions on the information and go deeper, attempting to understand what it all means.

In a rhetorical analysis, it is important that you write more analysis, and less summary. This is pretty obvious due to the name "rhetorical analysis." However, it can be easy to forget about this, and write too much summary.
