Logos
Logos is the logical appeal and sense of reason in your essay, or other writings. This differs from ethos because it is not actual facts, but reasonable ideas. If you base your essay on some outrageous claim, you won't appear reasonable to your audience, and they probably won't side with your opinion. This is one of the reasons that logos is important. When done correctly, the use of logos also makes your audience feel smart. When they hear a logical claim that they agree with, they'll feel smarter and therefor more in favor of your argument. No matter how well you use ethos and pathos in writing, if you don't use logos, you won't be able to effectively reach your audience. Although as humans we are naturally very emotional, we all need logic too. Logic helps to affirm our hunches or budding ideas, and gives us confidence in our beliefs.
