Revision

Revision is one of the most important parts of writing. What separates a good writer from a bad one, is their ability to revise and re-work their writing, to make it the most effective in proving their point. There are many different stages and ways of revising. Although it can be good to revise a little while writing your first draft, it is usually best to leave the revising till later. When you revise while writing a first draft, it can be very easy to get caught up in the process, constantly re-working your words and accomplishing essentially nothing. Focusing too much on perfection, will take away from presenting your argument in a clean and convincing way. Because of this, it's usually best to wait for major revisions until after you've completed your first draft. Once you've completed a draft, you can go back a read over everything you've written. This will help you to see whether your argument is clearly presented and carried throughout the paper, and where it need to be re-worked or revised.
